The art project „Akademie der freien Künste“ ("Academy of free Arts") creates experimental art spaces for marginalized students. In those, they can engage artistically with the self, their own environment and the concept of identity.
The topics of self and identity can be approached either directly - for example, in the form of a reflective examination of the inner and the design of an art identity - or indirectly, through the artistic elaboration of themes that are relevant to them personally, in a group situation or in their social context.
Artistic methods are used as a medium of reflection and self-expression, as well as for the artistic processing of certain themes. The academy thus offers young learners space to understand the inner and outer world with the help of art.
Moreover, the project regards itself as a post-disciplinary and democratic space for artistic development and specifically offers room for participation as well as experimental and process-oriented art procedures. For that, practices from all art disciplines are methodically combined.
The Project was founded by Anika Krbetschek and Laura Korinth. As an ongoing Project of cultural education, it created art spaces for marginalized school children in Märkisches Viertel Berlin for over three years now.
