Experimental Video Essay on VR Glasses

In (mis)using the double lens effect of the VR-glasses, a moment of psychological separation is simulated. Such a moment can be psycho-pathologically classified under the term ‚Dissociation‘. However, Dissociation as a protective mechanism can also be understood as a societal phenomenon: Every day we separate ourselves from a world flooded with crises and overstimulation for self-protection, increasingly using virtual realities.

Combined with a sound piece, that collects random finds of an internet research, to the term „dissociation“ and thus contains excerpts from encyclopedia articles, definitions in ICD-10 or psychological guides as well as questions asked and thoughts shared in forums and blogs, the work juxtaposes individual and collective experiences of dissociation.
