Post-disciplinary researches
that question our knowledge
related to human psychology,
spanning neurophysiology,
psychiatric systems,
the political and the overall human experience.
Being an expert by experience and education,
Trauma and its manifestations are examined
from personal position, from field explorations and participatory approaches
as well as in relation to political systems, inclusion and justice discourses.
„Anika Krbetschek‘s artistic practice is an in-depth investigation of internal psychic phenomena and their impact on an individual's sensation and perception. With that, she operates within a fundamental interest in the strangeness of sensation and perception, as well as in relation to a societal system and feminist discourses. She thus seeks to give visibility and promotes the destigmatization of mental disorders and neurophysiological divergences considered to be outside of the supposed normality. Through various experiences she made within the psychiatric and therapeutic system, she has gained a unique perspective on the challenges people face when they find themselves on the margins of society, leading her to realize that her place in the world exists through artistic expression and collaboration. Resembling herself, her work is deep and active, constantly evolving and experimenting, using every idea and context to adapt new forms and ways to achieve her artistic visions. To broaden the possibilities grearding her artist-activistic aims, she started very soon to also curate exhibitions and initiate projects as well as publishing her texts and speaking up on stages. Anika Krbetschek not only questions the label “illness” for inner psychic experiences but transcends the concept of boundaries, treating them rather as a continuum of human experiences, while reflecting the role of contemporary art in addressing issues of identity, perception, and social inclusion.“ Silvia Russo
