a room, the wall is still white. a sink, still unused. immediately overflowing with flowing stress. washing off the fear - washing off the risk. faucet open, the process, closed again. not yet ready to dry off, to finish the process. repeat.
"i wash my hands several times a day - i mean often - i mean again and again. the action is repeated, right after a course of action seemed to be completed. but it wasn't right yet, i'm not sure yet if washing my hands was right, went right. i'm not sure if I even just washed my hands. they're already so red.
i'm not sure yet."
multimedial interactive installation
in the installation, the inner-psychic processes of compulsive hand-washing are juxtaposed with the feelings that can be associated with the likewise repetitive process of hand-washing in the context of a pandemic. while feelings of safety and fear seem to be similar in both contexts, their relationship is different.
in a collaboration of artists with and without obsessive-compulsive disorder we created a multimedial, interactive translation of the dramaturgy of a compulsive action was using modified sound-bass-frequencies, synchronized light- sources, and video-art.
the abstraction of emotions makes compulsion understandable for recipients within their own spectrum of experience. Especially when coupled with interactive possibilities, emotional empathy is made possible. In this way, the project can contribute to destigmatization-processes.
collaboration with marco borowski and karl schulz.
